Karkaris Help Victims of Anyama

A few days ago, the municipality of Anyama, a community located north of Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) experienced a natural disaster that caused several deaths. Indeed, on June 18, 2020, heavy rain fell on this locality causing a deadly landslide. Assessment: several houses were submerged underground with their occupants; more than 30 families had their homes destroyed, 17 people died and 5 others were missing; many children almost perished under the rubble.

Anyama has since experienced a number of humanitarian actions aiming at rescuing the families affected by this sad event. Thus, in coordination with the Zawiyah in Morocco, the Ivorian Karkariya disciples carried out a humanitarian initiative for the benefit of the disaster-stricken families who benefited from tye donation of several essentials such as survival kits, mattresses, bedspreads, foodstuffs, gas cylinders, etc.

The Ivorian Karkariya disciples moreover worked in coordination with the locals to accommodate the homeless. They successfully were able, by the Grace of Allah, to find shelter to the disaster victims in a mosque while others were accommodated by a church. This coordination within the local community revived the ties of mutual aid between the different religious groups, Muslims and Christians in particular.

These humanitarian and charitable initiatives carried out by the disciples of the Karkariya Sufi order intervene, as has often been emphasized, in the context of the spiritual education and Sufi teachings of the Tariqa Karkariya, under the leadership of Shaykh Sidi Mohamed Faouzi Al-Karkari (qs), and which revolves around the help and love of one's neighbor, in accordance with Islamic principles.
