Wheresoever You Turn, There is the Face of God

God exalted says: "To God belong the East and the West. Wheresoever you turn, there is the Face of God. God is All-Encompassing, Knowing."

God’s all-embracing vastness (wusʿ) is not one of spatial distance. Far be it from God! He is beyond space and time, but space and time are not devoid of Him. He is detached from things, but things are not detached from Him. He is neither conjoined with concrete entities, nor is He disjoined from them. For this reason, the reality of turning toward His Presence is not a directional or spatial orientation. Rather, it is to orient oneself in upright comportment and in affirming divine oneness. For He is every-where and no-where. To this effect, a poet once wrote:

I saw my Lord with my heart’s eye

“Who are you?” I ask, “You” his reply

For in you, where-ness is nowhere

For you, there is no “where”

Only you occupy all wheres

Towards no-where – you are there

In my extinction my extinction itself goes extinct,

You are found, when myself goes extinct
