The Pact and the Litany

Karkariya-25.jpg

The Pact (ʿahd) denotes the pure proclamation of divine oneness (tawhid), as expressed when the first Covenant was taken in the [pre-cosmic] World of the Seed (ʿalam al-dharr) with the children of Adam, wherein lies the locus of witnessing and true cognizance of the soul, when we heard without ears His exalted saying: “Am I not your Lord” (alastu bi-Rabbikum) and we responded without a tongue, “yes, indeed” (bala).

As for the Litany (wird), it is a luminous flow (sarayan nurani) that extends from the heart of the Shaykh to the heart of the disciple, by which the Shaykh draws the disciple to a pure, supra-sensory presence. It is thus the rope that is grasped in order to bring down the spiritual being of the disciple to be watered from the fresh well waters of the Shaykh.

Shaykh Mohamed Faouzi Al Karkari (al-usul al-nuraniyya)
